The Nut Room is inspired by Roald Dahl, whose books provided hours of giggles and delight as a child. In his classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, one of my all-time favorite characters, deliciously naughty Veruca Salt barges into the Nut Room and grabs a squirrel sorting nuts. The other squirrels determine she is one rotten specimen and send her down the garbage chute.

I wrote my first book in kindergarten. Don’t remember what it was about except that it said something nice about my teacher. She made me read it to the class, twice. Guess I was unwittingly showing signs of a promising career in diplomacy but book writing, children’s book writing, has been the dream since one particular day not long after my kindergarten writing debut. Curled up on my window seat, picture book in hand, I vowed to someday delight children with my stories just as my favorite authors were thrilling me. Wish I could remember which book I was holding, a Dr. Suess perhaps? I was was a besotted fan. Still am.
